Diablo 1

Unofficial Add-Ons for Diablo 1

I added a new section Unofficial Addons containing the add-ons for Diablo which I don't have enough information to create separate sections for. Perhaps in the future I will merge this section with other sections about unofficial add-ons.

Blizzard goes away from Battle.net name

There are going to be some changes in Blizzard online games. Battle.net, which was created in 1996 to allow online gameplay in the first Diablo and all later games released by Blizzard will change it's name. Blizzard believes, that sometimes there is a consufion related to the name Battle.net, apparently Blizzard and Battle.net were identified as separate companies. The new name of the service will include the word Blizzard, however, the core and functionality is meant to stay the same. The changes will be implemented within a few months which we are still to be informed about.

Battle.net

We’re going to be transitioning away from using the Battle.net name for our gaming service and the functionality connected to it. Battle.net technology will continue to serve as the central nervous system for Blizzard games—nothing is changing in that regard. We'll just be referring to our various products and services using the Blizzard name instead. You've already seen this recently with things like "Blizzard Streaming" and "Blizzard Voice," and more changes are on the way.

When we created Battle.net, the idea of including a tailored online-gaming service together with your game was more of a novel concept, so we put a lot of focus on explaining what the service was and how it worked, including giving it a distinct name. Over time, though, we’ve seen that there’s been occasional confusion and inefficiencies related to having two separate identities under which everything falls-Blizzard and Battle.net. Given that built-in multiplayer support is a well-understood concept and more of a normal expectation these days, there isn’t as much of a need to maintain a separate identity for what is essentially our networking technology.

We just wanted to make sure everyone was aware as we moved forward with this change over the next several months; we’ll provide any relevant updates as the transition progresses.

Book of Demons

Last year studio Thing Trunk announced they are working on Return 2 Games – series consisting of 7 games which are a tributes to the cult productions released in the 90s. Pierwszym tytułem z cyklu R2G jest Book of Demons - first game from the R2G series is Book of Demons, a game that references the classic Diablo 1 and has debuted on Steam yesterday. Well, the truth is, it's still in Early Access but the game looks quite good. Website of the game: www.bookofdemons.com

Return 2 Games - Book of Demons

The attention is certainly drawn to the graphic style of paper cut-outs and the game play consisting of i.e. a card system that replaces items, spells and skills. So far, the only available class is Warrior, however, two new classes are to be introduced soon - Sorcerer and Rouge, so the same characters that are present in the first Diablo.

We made Book of Demons as fun for any player but the players that know the original Diablo and miss similar atmosphere should have even more fun playing this game. :)

Especially for my readers a free code for the game:

"We were always fascinated by the intensity of the experiences in the games from the 90's, especially Diablo 1, which in our opinion is one of the best hack & slash games of all time" said Maciej Biedrzycki, Thing Trunk co-founder. "Book of Demons is a tribute to this sentiment."
