Spells
Every character in Diablo can learn any spell if it has enough magic. Spell can be learnt by reading books that can be found in the Cathedral dungeons or by buying them at Adria. Level of a spell increases by reading a book for that spell. Maximum obtainable spell level is 15 (without bonuses from items), the amount of required magic to read a book increases with each spell level for that spell. The most powerful spell require 255 magic. The expansion for Diablo, Hellfire, introduced 5th page in the spell book. In addition to extra spells, the most important addition was that some spells were only available in scrolls and staves in the original Diablo, but were then available as books in Hellfire.

Resurrect1
Type: N/A
Description: Brings killed players back to life. Resurrected player will have 10 HP (or his max HP if his max HP is less than 10) and 0 mana.

Description: Shoots a fire bolt. Also available as starting spell for the Sorcerer .
Charged Bolt

Description: Casts small beams of lightning that crawl slowly and incoherently.
Holy Bolt

Description: Shoots a bolt that only deals damage to undead. Also work on Diablo. In Hellfire, Diablo and Bone Demons are resistant to Holy Bolt.
Healing

Description: Regenerates some health points. Healing bonus depends on character class among other things.

Description: Regenerates some health point of other players. Healing bonus depends on character class among other things.

Inferno
Type: Fire | Blockable: No
Description: Creates a blob of fire for a short time in front of us. Used by Balrogs.
Resurrect1

Fire Wall
Type: Fire | Blockable: No | Duration: 8 + 8*slvl seconds (12 + 8*slvl in Hellfire)
Description: Creates a wall of fire that damage both monsters and players. Fire wall also affects the person casting the spell.
Telekinesis

Description: Thanks to this spell we will be able to open chests, doors, book stands, use shrines, etc. from a certain distance. Can also be used to pick up items from the ground. Can be used on a monster, however, it does very little. Some bosses are immune to telekinesis. A monster will immediately lose any Stone Curse status if it is targeted with Telekinesis.
Lightning

Description: Summons a lightning we can aim at a monster. If there will be two or more monsters on the lightning path, they will also be damaged.
Town Portal

Description: Creates a portal leading to the town.
Flash
Type: Magic | Blockable: No
Description: Generates focused energy that radiate around the character. Highly trained spell deals very high damage but due to a bug the amount of damage dealt from certain angles are minimal. While casting Flash, you are temporarily invulnerable.
Stone Curse
Type: N/A | Max duration: 12 seconds
Description: Turns a monster into stone for a short period of time. Doesn’t work on Diablo, Na-Kul and other players.
Phasing
Type: N/A
Description: Teleports us into a random place nearby. It is slightly faster than Teleport.
Mana Shield
Type: N/A
Description: Received damage will reduce amount of mana rather than hit points. In addition, in Diablo the damage the received damage is reduced by 33%, but in Hellfire, due to a bug, the damage reduction decreases with the spell level, using formula 100/(3*slvl) - hence that if the spell level is 7 or greater, damage reduction is 4%. It is best to use Mana Shield on spell level 1 in Hellfire.
Elemental

Description: Creates a flaming character that runs to the nearest target and explodes on impact. Splash damage is impossible to block.
Fireball
Type: Fire | Speed: 16 + 2*slvl (max 50)
Description: One of the most powerful spell in the game. Looks like Firebolt but deals great damage. Damage can also be dealt to monsters around the target due to splash damage. You can block either the fireball or the splash, but not both.
Flame Wave
Type: Fire | Blockable: Yes
Description: Creates a wall of fire that moves in the aimed direction, dealing damage to enemies on its way.
Chain Lightning
Type: Lightning | Speed: 32 | Blockable: No
Description: Simultaneously produces several lightnings which automatically are aimed at targets.
Guardian
Type: Fire | Blockable: Yes | Max duration: 24 seconds
Description: After casting this spell, a three-headed beast comes out of the ground spitting firebolts at enemies.
Nova

Description: Powerful spell exploding in a ring of lightning spreading from the caster to outside. Only available in scrolls and staves in Diablo, but you can get it in books in Hellfire.
Golem

Description: Summons a stone golem to fight with monsters. Golem walks in the direction in which our character is currently facing.
Teleport

Description: Teleports us in any chosen place. Often used by sorcerers instead of walking.
Apocalypse

Description: Very powerful spell, works against all monsters negating their resistances. Apocalypse is also used by the main boss - Diablo . In Diablo 1 can only be found in scrolls and staves, while also available in books in Hellfire.
Bone Spirit
Type: Magic | Speed: 16 | Blockable: Yes
Description: Summons a Spirit that automatically aims itself at a target taking 1/3 of its hit points. If used against another player, it takes 1/6 HP. Person casting the spell loses 6 HP or 6 additional mana points if using mana shield.
Blood Star
Type: Magic | Speed: 16 | Blockable: Yes
Description: Shoots a red energy ball. Person casting the spell loses 5hp or 5 additional mana points if using mana shield.

Lightning Wall

Description: Work similarly to Fire wall but creates a fall of lightning that stays up much longer than fire wall.
Immolation

Description: Very powerful spell. Works similarly to Nova but instead of a ring of lightning, it shoots a ring of fireballs.
Warp

Description: Teleports you to the nearest stairs.
Reflect
Type: N/A | Duration: slvl*clvl hits
Description: Reduces damage dealt by monsters in hand-to-hand combat by 20-29% and retaliates it at the monster.
Berserk
Type: Magic
Description: Casted on a monster makes it go into rampage and attack nearest targets. All unique and special monsters are immune to Berserk.
Ring of Fire
Type: Fire | Blockable: No
Description: Creates a ring of fire around person casting the spell.
Search
Type: N/A | Duration: 12.25 + 10*slvl + clvl seconds
Description: SHighlights objects on the ground and makes them visible on the map. Also a skill for Monk characters.
